Heleen Gerritsen

Heleen Gerritsen (Eindhoven, The Netherlands, 1978) has been Artistic Director of the Deutsche Kinemathek in Berlin since 2025, and curates the Berlinale sections “Retrospective” and “Berlinale Classics”. She studied Slavic Studies, Eastern European History and Economics in Amsterdam and Russian Philology in St. Petersburg and has lived in Germany since 2003. After working in film and television production (for ARTE, SWR, RBB and SAT.1, among others), she took on curatorial roles: from 2014 to 2016 at dokumentART - European Documentary Film Festival in Neubrandenburg, from 2017 to 2025 at DFF - Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum for goEast - Festival of Central and Eastern European Film in Wiesbaden. Among her publications are ›Decolonizing the (Post-)Soviet Screen‹ (2023/24), as well as the script to “Heia, Heia Safari!” (2024) which she co-wrote with Radu Jude.
