Born 1954 in Oberhausen, married, one daughter. German studies, Philosophy and Education at Bonn University.
1983 - 1985: Lecturer for German studies at University Siegen.
1985 - 1989: Team manager for cultural education at the community college Oberhausen.
1989 - 1996: Director of the cultural office of the city of Mühlheim an der Ruhr.
1997 - 1998: Head of division for cultural policy at the ministry for city development, cultur and sport of North Rhine-Westfalia.
1998 - 2007: Department head for culture, education and science of the city of Bonn.
Since July 2017 head of the cultural department of the city of Munich.
Since October 2008 chairman of the culture committee of the German Association of Cities.
